Tuesday, June 22nd
Metropolitan Pavillion
On June 22nd, nearly 500 young foodies and tastemakers attended our sold-out Summer in the City, a tasting and cocktail party featuring more than 40 of the city's hottest restaurants, cocktail stations, and a speakeasy-themed VIP room.
Bidders kept the silent auction table buzzing all night with exciting prizes that included a private butchering session with the head butcher from Dickson’s Farmstand and a Montauk vacation package. A few lucky raffle winners also went home with tickets to the Atlantic City Food & Wine Festival and one-night stays at Harrah's in Atlantic City. In addition, guests rocked out to live music by Arlene's Grocery Rock & Roll Karaoke Band with vocals by some of the chefs and guests in attendance!
This year’s event raised over $190,000 to help City Harvest rescue food for hungry New Yorkers.

Attendees and supporters of this year’s On Your Plate luncheon helped raise more than $185,000 in support of our work. Silda Wall Spitzer headlined the event, talking about the importance of youth’s participation in their communities, but the stars were the panel of New York City students from public, independent and parochial schools who regaled luncheon guests with tales of volunteering and giving back to those in need. The schools, each headed by an active core of student leaders, are part of City Harvest’s citywide community that supports our efforts to feed New York’s hungry men, women and children.
City Harvest would like to thank the events Co-Chairs, Joy Ingham and Topsy Taylor, our Honorary Chair, David Patrick Columbia and everyone who attended for their support of City Harvest’s work in New York City.
An Evening of Practical MagicApril 14th, 2010
Cipriani 42nd Street
Over 500 guests joined City Harvest at Cipriani 42nd Street on April 14th for a sold-out night to help City Harvest put more nutritious food into the hands of hungry individuals and families in New York City. In just one evening, City Harvest was able to raise nearly $1.3 million in support of our mission to feed hungry New Yorkers.
An Evening of Practical Magic paid tribute to Tom O’Brien, President and General Manager, NBC Local Media New York, NBC4/NBC Universal and James D. Kallman, City Harvest board chair, for their ongoing commitment to helping City Harvest feed New York’s hungry. Hosted by Al Roker, the event included a moving speech by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Jesus Ortiz, a City Harvest driver. Introductions were provided by Dana Cowin, editor in chief of Food and Wine Magazine, and Heather Mnuchin, vice chair of City Harvest’s board of directors and one of the event’s co-chairs. Because An Evening of Practical Magic was supported by Barclays Capital and a donor through FJC, a Foundation of Philanthropic Funds, 100% of the ticket price directly supported the efforts of City Harvest to feed hungry New Yorkers.
As part of the live auction, City Harvest Food Council chair Eric Ripert pulled out all of the stops, raising $114,000 by agreeing to personally prepare a meal at home for one lucky bidder and his 12 guests – twice! The most exciting prize of the evening was a personally autographed guitar by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd. Roger hopped up on stage to join Christie’s auctioneer George McNeely and Miss USA 2009 Kristen Dalton, and before the bidding was over he had added 10 opening night tickets at Madison Square Garden to Pink Floyd’s world tour to the package. After a round of competitive bidding, Roger’s guitar and concert ticket package went for $65,000! Other exciting auction items included exclusive once-in-a-lifetime culinary experiences with chefs Marc Murphy and Chris Santos.
After hearing driver Jesus Ortiz share his experiences on the road with City Harvest, guests were able to view Feed a Dream, a video showing how the healthy food provided by City Harvest continues to help dreams come true across New York City.

City Harvest would like to thank everyone who made Bid Against Hunger such an ovewhelming success! Hundreds of guests and more than 70 chefs helped us raise over $730,000 on Tuesday night -- enough to help feed over 10,000 people for an entire year! The success of events like Bid Against Hunger are critical for City Harvest, especially at a time when more and more of our neighbors are turning to food pantries and soup kitchens to feed their families.
Extra special thanks go to those of you who took part in our auction. I know many of us in the room are envious of your once-in-a-lifetime private cooking class with Tom Colicchio and your amazing culinary experience with Eric Ripert and Aldo Sohm.

June 23rd, 2009
On June 23rd, 500 tastemakers packed the Metropolitan Pavilion for a sold-out Summer in the City, Generation Harvest’s tasting and cocktail party for young professionals. Guests bid on once-in-a-lifetime silent auction prizes as they enjoyed cocktails and tasting portions of signature dishes from 34 of the city's hottest restaurants.
VIP guests enjoyed a live Cuban band, red and white sangria bar, and cigar roller in the VIP Cuban Lounge hosted by Victor's Café, plus special cooking demos by chefs including Alexandra Guarnaschelli, Ron Ben-Israel, and Jason Neroni! Backed by the karaoke band from Arlene's Grocery, chefs in attendance treated the crowd to a very special performance toward the end of the evening, while DJ $mall ¢hange kept everyone moving. Guests were even able to share their thoughts on Twitter with live tweeting throughout the night.
This year's Summer in the City raised over $200,000, which will help City Harvest rescue and deliver over 714,000 pounds of much-needed food to agencies feeding hungry New Yorkers.

Twenty-seven teams of four joined City Harvest and Benoit on May 16th for our first-ever Bistro Crawl, hitting up bistros around the city which included Artisanal Fromagerie and Bistro, Brasserie Cognac, Café D’Alsace, Cercle Rouge, Marseille, and Nice Matin, before heading to a finish-line party at Benoit. At each stop, teams enjoyed tasting portions and drinks and received tokens for each bistro-related question they answered correctly, checking Twitter for clues and tweeting their own updates.
The teams that arrived at Benoit with all six tokens were entered into a drawing to win five gift certificates for the bistros of their choice, with the second prize team winning the remaining four gift certificates. The Bistro Crawl supports City Harvest’s work rescuing food for hungry New Yorkers. Congratulations to all of our teams and thank you for a fun (and very French) afternoon fighting hunger!

Thank you to guests of City Harvest's fifth annual On Your Plate luncheon. In just one afternoon, City Harvest was able to raise more than $225,000 in support of our work – critical at a time when more New Yorkers are finding themselves in line for emergency food. This year City Harvest honored David Patrick Columbia for putting the fight against hunger on the pages of New York Social Diary.
David Patrick Columbia joined City Harvest at the Metropolitan Club for an entertaining and informative interview followed by a question and answer session with the audience. This year's luncheon attracted over 200 guests. City Harvest is especially grateful to event co-chairs Carol Atkinson, Joy Ingham, Emilia Saint-Amand, and Topsy Taylor for making On Your Plate a success.

Cipriani's 42nd Street
Nearly 500 guests joined City Harvest at Cipriani 42nd Street on April 22nd, taking action to respond to rising need at food pantries and soup kitchens across the city. In just one evening, City Harvest was able to raise $1 million to help feed families struggling to put food on the table during these difficult times.
An Evening of Practical Magic paid tribute to twelve individuals and organizations that each provided steadfast support of City Harvest's mission in their own unique way. Host David Arquette joined forces with Rachael Ray, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, and Miss USA Kristen Dalton to present a moving program, followed by a heartfelt performance from musicians Rob Thomas and Marc Shaiman, directed by Adam Shankman. Crishell Stause and Kelly Killoren Bensimon helped add sparkle to the evening. Best of all, because dinner costs for An Evening of Practical Magic were underwritten by Credit Suisse, with all other costs underwritten by City Harvest Board of Directors and event co-chairs, 100% of each ticket could directly support City Harvest’s work.
As part of the exciting live auction, Chef Eric Ripert pulled out all of the stops, raising $45,000 by agreeing to personally prepare a meal at home for one lucky bidder and his 25 guests. Others from the food community standing with City Harvest in the fight against hunger included Marc Murphy, Josh Emett, Tracy Nieporent, Aldo Sohm, Anne Saxelby, Alexandra Guarnaschelli, and Dana Cowin. Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, along with Speaker Quinn, also renewed his commitment to making sure no one in our city has to worry about their next meal.
In addition to hearing a speech from a City Harvest driver, guests were able to view New York Is Hungry, a video showing some of what many of the people City Harvest serves are going through in our troubled economy.
